High Blood Pressure - Medication
 
In most cases, the aim is to lower blood pressure to below 140/90 mmHg. (Some experts say it should be to below 140/85 mmHg.) If you have diabetes the aim is to have a blood pressure below 140/80 mmHg. If you have kidney problems caused by diabetes the aim is to have a blood pressure below 135/75 mmHg.
There are four main classes of medicines which are used to lower blood pressure.
