This statement explains how accessible this website is, what to do if you have trouble using it, and what we are doing to improve it.

This statement applies to www.dronfieldhealth.co.uk, the website of Dronfield Medical Practice.

Using this website

This website is run by Dronfield Medical Practice. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. That means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings
  • zoom in to 300% without text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the whole website using just a keyboard
  • listen to the website using a screen reader.

We have also tried to make the writing as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We believe most of this website is accessible, but parts of it are not. In particular:

  • most of our downloadable documents — leaflets, policies and forms — are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • the map on our new patients page cannot be used with a keyboard or screen reader
  • we have not yet had the site tested independently by people who use assistive technology day to day.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Downloadable documents. This website links to around 38 documents — mostly PDFs, with a few Word documents — covering practice leaflets, policies, privacy notices and forms. Most were produced before this website was built and have not been checked or rebuilt for accessibility. Many are likely to lack the structure that screen readers rely on, and some may be scans of printed pages rather than real text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships) and, where a document is a scan, 1.4.5 (images of text).

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The practice boundary map. Our new patients page includes a map showing the area we cover, supplied by Google Maps. Online maps are exempt from the accessibility regulations. We have provided the same information in an accessible way: the postcode checker on that page tells you in plain text whether an address is inside our catchment area, and it works without the map, with a keyboard, and with a screen reader.

Third-party content. Some pages link out to websites we do not control, such as NHS services, Patient Access and the NHS App. We are not responsible for the accessibility of those sites.

The CQC rating on our home page is displayed by a widget supplied by the Care Quality Commission, so that the rating you see is always their current one. We do not control how that widget is built. A plain text link to our full inspection report on the CQC website sits directly beneath it, so the same information is reachable if the widget does not work for you.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

This website was rebuilt in 2026 with accessibility as a stated goal rather than an afterthought. As part of that work:

  • colour combinations were measured against the WCAG contrast formula rather than judged by eye, and several were changed as a result
  • expandable sections use the browser’s own controls, so they work with a keyboard and are announced correctly by screen readers
  • every page has a skip link and proper headings, so you can move around without reading through the navigation each time
  • links that open a new tab or lead to a download say so
  • the site was reviewed by a patient with lived experience of sight impairment, and their feedback changed the design of the main action buttons on the home page.

We plan to:

  • review our downloadable documents, starting with the ones patients need most, and either rebuild them accessibly or replace them with web pages
  • arrange testing with people who use assistive technology day to day
  • review this statement at least once a year, and whenever the website changes significantly.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 14 August 2026. It was last reviewed on 14 August 2026.

This website was last tested in August 2026. Testing was carried out by Studio Excel, who built the site, and consisted of:

  • calculated checks of colour contrast, page structure, headings, form labels and keyboard focus across every page
  • checks that every link works and goes where it says it goes
  • an informal review by a patient with lived experience of sight impairment.

We have not yet commissioned an independent audit against the full WCAG 2.2 AA standard, and we have not tested the site with screen reader software in a formal setting. We have said so here rather than claim a level of testing we have not done.
