Self referral services
For some NHS services you do not need to see a GP first - you can contact them yourself. It is often the quickest route to the right help.
What you can refer yourself to
Our leaflet lists the services in and around Derbyshire that accept referrals directly from patients, with phone numbers, websites and who each service is for. It covers:
- Pharmacy First — treatment for conditions such as earache, sore throat, sinusitis, shingles, impetigo, infected insect bites and urinary tract infections, without an appointment
- Eye problems — red, painful, gritty or watery eyes, flashes and floaters, or sudden loss of vision
- Pelvic health physiotherapy — bladder, bowel and pelvic floor problems, pelvic pain, and pregnancy-related conditions
- Perinatal mental health — support in pregnancy and until your baby is two
- Talking therapies — counselling and CBT from any of the four Derbyshire providers; the choice is yours
- Weight, activity and stopping smoking — the Live Life Better Derbyshire programme
- Adult social care and the Sexual Abuse and Incest Line
Age limits apply to some of these. The leaflet says who each service is for, and a pharmacist can still advise you even if you fall outside the age range for a particular treatment.
